The Naraki Tribe
Introduction
The Naraki are a formidable and prosperous tribe renowned for their unparalleled mastery of metalworking—far beyond what should be possible in their world. Nestled in mountainous regions, the Naraki have established a permanence unmatched by any other tribe. Their society is entwined with fire and metal, both central to religion, culture, and daily life.
Beliefs and Religion
At the heart of Naraki spirituality is a god of fire and metal. They believe every piece of metal they forge is sacred, crafted by their deity’s hand.
The Narakin Sphere
In truth, their god is the Narakin Sphere, a relic from the birth of time: a superheated mass condensed into endless fire. It sits at the tribe’s center, and all life revolves around it.
Society and Social Structure
The tribe is divided into four groups:
- The Oracles (The Nativim)
- The War Dogs (The Alloys)
- The Cave Dwellers
- The Farmers
The Oracles (The Nativim)
Female oracles serve as spiritual leaders and conduits to the Sphere. They inhale furnace smoke to gain prophetic visions. Their skin is blackened by smoke and tar.
The Great Burning
To become an oracle, a woman offers her left hand to the Sphere. The heat necrotizes the arm to the shoulder, marking her as chosen. Survivors are revered as living deities.
The War Dogs (The Alloys)
The War Dogs are ruthless warriors wielding metal weapons. They scarify themselves for each kill. Leaders wear a piece of furnace‑metal engraved into their foreheads.
Before battle they consume crushed coals mixed with the Narakin Eye, a psychedelic flower that induces a furnace‑fueled frenzy.
The Cave Dwellers
Miners who live in an extensive cave system, subsisting on bats and lizards. Over time they become blind but gain heightened senses.
The Hum of the Naraki
Cave Dwellers speak of a mysterious humming in the caves—The Hum of the Naraki—unexplained and ripe for quest hooks.
The Farmers
The tribe’s backbone: cultivation, livestock, coal collection, and day‑to‑day maintenance.
Culture and Lifestyle
Architecture
Stone brick huts arranged in a circle, all facing inward toward the furnace where the Sphere resides.
Symbolism and Art
Fire symbols dominate Naraki art. Scarification and tattoos depict flames and the Sphere.
Rituals and Traditions
The Grand Burning
The entire tribe gathers to offer tributes—battle spoils, crops, or personal items—to keep the furnace (and their god) burning eternally.
Interactions with Players
The Flame of Naraki
The Narakin Sphere can be harnessed to forge the Flame of Naraki, a burning sword of unparalleled might. Stealing the Sphere risks the tribe’s collapse and vengeance.
